"The IRA Rollover Provision, which exempts from taxable
income any funds "rolled over" from an IRA to a charitable
organization, was recently revised and will apply
to gifts made through December 31, 2010."
Camping At AOW
In July, the 8th Annual Greenway Sojourn, sponsored
by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, will include America
On Wheels as one of its overnight destinations. Approximately
350 cyclists will visit the museum and then spend the
night in a temporary campground outside on our grounds.
The ride starts and ends in Camden, N.J., kicking
off with a private party and overnight stay on the
Battleship New Jersey on the Camden/Philadelphia waterfront.
Sojourners will be treated to exclusive overnights
including Bull's Island on the Delaware River, the
John James Audubon Homestead, Jim Thorpe-the "Little
Switzerland" of Pennsylvania, and more. Included in
the ride are 17 meals, catered by Gala Gourmet, whose
experience with large events and the bicyclists' nutritional
needs-combined with buying local produce-ensures healthy
and delicious food with an economic return to local
sustainable farms. This exceptional journey concludes
with a chartered light rail trip from Trenton back
to the battleship. For more information or to register

America On Wheels Receives $200,000 State Grant
For Education, Expansion
AOW received a $200,000 state grant to renovate administrative
space into an educational center and an eatery for
visitors. The Economic Growth and Development Assistance
grant awarded by the Department of Community and Economic
Development in February will allow the museum to renovate
the second floor of the administrative building -
the former Arbogast & Bastian Inc. building at Front
and Hamilton streets -- into a staging area for a
growing number of school field trips, and community
programs.
"When not being utilized as an educational center,
this area will be available to rent for corporate
meetings and workshops, birthday, anniversary and
business parties and wedding receptions to provide
another source of revenue for the museum," Merkel
said. "In addition, we intend to install a small dining
area called The Hub Cap -- reminiscent of a 1950s
soda shop --that will offer sundaes, milk shakes and
ice cream floats to our visitors."
