'America on Wheels rolls out 'Memories'

Allentown, PA - All that was missing at the ''Moonlight Memories'' fundraiser Oct. 24 at the America on Wheels museum's second annual fundraiser was a request to follow the bouncing ball and join in a round of ''Come Away with Me Lucille in my Merry Oldsmobile.''

Flapper Kathleen Guthrie greeted guests at their first stop of the evening. Dorothy Minnich offered bubble gum cigars from her cigarette tray, and nearby, Dennis Smith explained the charm of the 1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile. However, Lucille was not in the back seat automobubbling, as the song says.

Harry Mericle, a volunteer tour guide at the museum, pointed out a Chevy station wagon from the mid-1950s, a snazzy two-tone aqua and white very similar to an all-aqua 1955 Chevy in Scene's very own past.

Seeing John B. Curcio, president of the museum board and the former chairman, president and chief executive officer of Mack Trucks, was a highlight of the evening. Though he has made plenty of over-the-road transportation history in the Lehigh Valley, he was indeed a guest, not an exhibit.

Other guests included Paul Ritter, Arlene and Don Bernhard, Leah Ringholm and Richard Hyde, Joe and Yvonne McDermott and Yajaira Melendez and Manuel Lopez.

POWER OF WOMEN

Women from all corners of the Lehigh Valley gathered Oct. 20 at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem for the 11th Annual Power of Women Fall Networking event. With the tight economy in mind, the group went with a cocktail party instead of a luncheon, said founder Pamela Varkony.

The women with the cocktails didn't seem to mind.

Varkony launched what she hopes will be an annual event: the ''Top Five Women of Influence in the Lehigh Valley'' award. Categories include business, education, healthcare, government and the nonprofit sector. Voting continues through Nov. 23. For information, see http://www.powerofwomen.net.

Tina Bradford of Tina Bradford Public Relations spoke about networking and social media.

Also attending were Cindy Feinberg, Kim LaBrake, Jennifer Mann, Joellen Reichenback, Judy Williams, Pamela Bechtel, Maggie Bonge, Marg Ford, Virginia Phipps, Dawn Washington and Marisol Sosnowski.
