Remembering Dorney Park and Mahoning Valley Speedway Reunion
Allentown, PA – The America On Wheels Museum will be showcasing the Dorney Park Speedway and Mahoning Speedway Reunion (Presented by Mahoning Valley Speedway) on November 3, 2013 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers who raced at these spectacular speedways are invited to attend, as well as, any present day drivers from any speedway. There will be four (4) 2013 Dorney Park Speedway Hall of Fame Inductees and four (4) 2013 Mahoning Speedway Hall of Fame Inductees announced during the Reunion.
When Dorney Park Speedway closed in 1986, there was an entire field of racecars, drivers, owners, crew members and race fans that suddenly had no place to race. Mahoning Valley Speedway located in Lehighton, PA was a natural fit. The speedway had not operated since the 1960’s but the track was there although in dilapidated condition. Ward and Dot Crozier, with roots from Dorney Park and Nazareth Speedway, realized the timing was perfect to bring back the track. They completely refurbished the track and brought to life racing in 1987. They had all the ingredients for success with everyone from Dorney Park coming to Mahoning. Dorney Park Speedway had come back from the ashes and was reborn 25 miles to the North in Lehighton, PA. Because of this connection between Dorney Park Speedway and Mahoning Valley Speedway it was only fitting to combine the Dorney Park Reunion and Hall of Fame with Mahoning Valley Speedway and establish a Mahoning Hall of Fame at America On Wheels Museum. Museum’s Executive Director, Linda Merkel, announced that this event is coming to life with the help of Bob and Dale Snyder. These individuals have been involved in racing photography and racing videos for many years. They still continue to keep the memories alive through this event and their ongoing work.
