Anchors Away: America On Wheels Museum
The America on Wheels Museum is driving redevelopment
on Allentown's east side. Volunteers keep the car lover's
paradise chugging right along and recently Rob and Wendy
got a taste of the action.
Linda Merkel says that America on Wheels is part of the
redevelopment of Allentown
From Mack Trucks' mascot, to the bike that Pee-Wee pedaled
every corner conveys a lesson in mobility. And most of the
folks who keep this museum in motion are happy to do it
for free!
Merkel says that their volunteers are very important, and
that they're the heart and soul of the organization.
Opportunities abound, even if you don't know a carburetor
from a catalytic converter. People are needed for everything
from moving the vehicles to working in the gift shop. And
working the admissions desk to helping with special events.
America on Wheels has just over 50 volunteers.
The museum is hoping to double that number. You have to
be at least 17 years old to join the team.
