Issue 17 / Spring 2013
Development & Memebership at AOW
By: Sheryl A. Hawk, Director of Development

"One person can make a difference and every person should try".
President John F. Kennedy

These words by President John F. Kennedy continue to resonate today, reminding each of us our ability and responsibility to improve the lives of those around us.

Donors come in many forms. Generosity comes from people who are aging in their senior years, from families and individuals, from small business to corporate giving and from people of all faiths and backgrounds. Here at America On Wheels we are forever grateful for the numerous gifts we receive daily.

Since I've come on board in September, 2012, the role of development and membership has begun to move forward in reaching out to all existing and potential donors in one way or another. We are thrilled to report the success of our 5th Annual Moonlight Memories Gala held on November 30, highlighting the New York World's Fair and the introduction to the America Classics of the 1930s Exhibit. With close to 300 guests, fabulous entertainment by Robin Miller & Company, delicious food by Maison Blanc, excellent Silent Auction items, and historical displays from two collectors of the New York World's Fair memorabilia, the successful event netted a record-setting $21,500, which benefits the museum's educational programs and changing exhibits. A special thanks to all our wonderful sponsors for the evening. Mark your calendar today to join us for next year's Gala which will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 with a Sherlock Holmes Mystery theme!

Development has been very active in seeking 'grant' funding for our operational needs in 2013, sponsorship requests for our exciting events, along with enhancing our Museum Membership Engine Club. We are excited to kick off a new benefits program for current and future museum members on February 1. These benefits will be in addition to the standard AOW benefits one receives when they join our Membership Engine Club. Several local community organizations and restaurants have partnered with AOW to offer YOU – our Engine Club Members some wonderful opportunities listed below.

Our newly announced Capacity Campaign for 2013, is connected to an amazing opportunity with a local business. This business has offered AOW a Matching/Challenge Grant in the amount of $500,000. AOW must raise $500,000 by December, 2013 to receive this $500,000. Please join the everyday philanthropist movement at America On Wheels and make a donation that COUNTS! Contact Sheryl or Linda at AOW at 610-432-4200 or email shawk@americaonwheels.org.

Experience the JOY!
